The sudden death of senior journalist Ali Mamud inside the National Press Club in Dhaka has sent shockwaves through the country’s media community, raising urgent questions about the circumstances surrounding his passing.

On the morning of 10 February 2026, police recovered the body of Ali Mamud from a washroom inside the National Press Club after breaking open the locked door. According to Shahbagh police officials, he had come to the Press Club the previous day and entered the washroom at some point, but did not return.

Officers forced open the door around 9:00am in the presence of his family members and found him unresponsive. Police reported that blood was seen coming from his nose and mouth and initially suggested that he may have suffered a stroke. However, the exact cause of death has not yet been confirmed.

Ali Mamud served as the city editor of the daily newspaper Dainik Dinkal. He was also associated with the media cell of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party.

His body has been sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Authorities stated that a post-mortem examination will depend on the decision of the family.
